If you frequently use the Lisbon Metro to commute from home to work (and vice versa), please take note: a 24-hour strike has been called by management of the transit agency’s Operations Department, from 5:00 a.m. on October 14 to 5:00 a.m. on October 15, with no minimum service requirements in place.
The reasons for the work stoppage

According to the newspaper Público, the Federation of Transportation and Communications Unions (Fectrans) issued a statement this Tuesday (October 13) listing a variety of reasons to justify this work stoppage, including “failure to comply with the April 13 agreement,” which at the time prevented the strike that had been scheduled for the following day.
Among the main issues raised by the unions, the following stand out:
- Staff Shortages at the Central Command Post and in the Locomotive Division
- Excessive Overtime
- Very long shifts
- Practical hollowing out of managerial functions
- Excessive bureaucracy in work organization
- Situations of pressure and constraint
- Lack of concrete measures and verifiable deadlines.
