On view at Alameda Almeida Garrett, in Parque dos Poetas, from October 23 to November 22, World Press Photo is one of the most internationally recognized photojournalism exhibitions.
The 2026 edition featuring the winners presents 42 works, selected from more than 57,000 photographs submitted by photographers from 141 countries.
The images you’re about to see address issues that define today’s world: conflicts, humanitarian crises, climate change, and social inequalities—but also stories of resilience and triumph.
World Press Photo: Photo of the Year

The World Press Photo 2026 Photo of the Year is “Separated by ICE,” by Carol Guzy (ZUMA Press, iWitness, for the Miami Herald). It was announced on April 23, 2026.
Taken in a hallway of the Jacob K. Javits Federal Building in New York—one of the few federal buildings in the U.S. where photographers were granted access—it captures the moment when a family is separated by U.S. ICE officers.
Luis, an Ecuadorian migrant, was detained by ICE (U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement) agents after an immigration court hearing on August 26, 2025. His family says he has no criminal record and was the sole breadwinner for his household.
The woman, Cocha, and her three children, ages 7, 13, and 15, were inconsolable and are facing immediate financial difficulties and severe emotional trauma.
In the photograph, we can see the daughters clinging to their father’s shirt as he is being arrested.
