Stop by the Arroios Market between October 23 and 25, and you’ll find more than 120 independent publishers, bookstores, and collectives gathered in one place. FLIFA, now in its fifth year, offers free admission and participation in all activities.
There are publishers with decades of experience and projects just taking their first steps, all side by side at the bookstalls. Among the 2026 participants are Exemplo Books, Planeta Tangerina, Péssima Editora, Zigurate, Livraria das Insurgentes, and Edições da Cinemateca.
What’s happening beyond the bookstalls

The program was born out of a collaboration with the participating publishers and bookstores. Among the highlights are:
Theater and anniversaries: a staged reading by Artistas Unidos in honor of Harold Pinter and the celebration of the tenth anniversary of *The Death of the Artist*.
Conversations: a series of roundtable discussions on bestsellers, reading habits, and literary festivals, coordinated by Joana Márkus Neves.
Sabores: a book launch featuring live cooking and a tasting of “espécies,” the traditional sweet from the island of São Jorge.
For the youngest attendees: workshops on making pop-up books, creative writing, and illustration, as well as an activity by Planeta Tangerina inspired by the *Volta sempre!* collection.
From the first festival to the fifth edition
FLIFA was launched in 2022 at the Quartel do Largo do Cabeço da Bola, and some of the publishers and bookstores from that first edition continue to participate, such as SNOB, Miosótis, and Piena. The goal remains the same: to bring publishers, booksellers, and readers together.
The event is produced by the Arroios Parish Council.
Hours: Friday, October 23, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, October 24 and 25, from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Location: Arroios Market, Lisbon.
