The Madeira Festival is back at the Jardim do Arco do Cego in Lisbon and will remain open daily from 12 p.m. to 11 p.m. through September 20. It is organized by the Avenidas Novas Parish Council, and admission is free.
An opening linked to jazz
The opening took place on Thursday, the 10th, at 7:30 p.m., right after the closing of Avenidas Hot Jazz, a jazz festival held in the same garden in partnership with the Hot Clube de Portugal. The jazz festival’s closing session, at 6:30 p.m., featured a performance by the Guilherme Fradinho Quintet, serving as a bridge between the two events.
The island’s cuisine, culture, and crafts

Over the course of 11 days, the festival aims to showcase Madeira’s identity through a program dedicated to the cuisine, culture, and crafts of the Autonomous Region of Madeira, open to the entire community—a space designed to bring the island’s culture closer to those who live in or visit Lisbon.
A date with special significance
This edition of the Madeira Festival is also part of the program for the 50th Anniversary of Autonomy Celebrations, which this year mark half a century since the creation of the political autonomy regimes of Madeira and the Azores. For Daniel Gonçalves, president of the Avenidas Novas Parish Council, the festival “is an opportunity to celebrate the richness and diversity of Madeiran culture, while simultaneously fostering connections between communities and highlighting Portugal’s cultural heritage.”
