A millennia-old tradition from the Far East, which has evolved in recent decades into a sport practiced in more than 100 countries, is about to make its debut in the capital. This is the first edition of the Lisbon Dragon Boat Festival, taking place from September 25 to 27 at the Oceanário Dock in Parque das Nações.
According to information from the Portuguese-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCILC) website, more than 700 participants are expected to bring a sport with over 2,500 years of history to life in the Portuguese capital . In total, the teams consist of 12 members who, to the beat of a drum, row together in an activity where synchronization is key.

However, the highlight of the first Lisbon Dragon Boat Festival comes on the event’s final day, September 27, which features several races as part of European Sports Week. Here , anyone interested can come and try out the sport.
However, registration is required—either online or on the day of the event at the Village, which will be set up next to the Portugal Pavilion. In addition, the public will also have access to other activities, such as rowing, skiing, and cycling simulators.
