If you’re one of those people who’d rather spend more time in bed and less time outside, this news is for you: it won’t be long before summer (and its daylight hours) say goodbye until next year. And although the fall equinox is just around the corner, it’s the switch to standard time that gives us that extra hour of sleep.
When does the switch to standard time take place?

Twice a year, the clock’s hands move forward or backward, depending on the season. The truth is that the possibility of eliminating this practice was once on the table for discussion in the European Union, but the lack of consensus among member states led to the continuation of summer and winter time, which begin on the last Sunday in March and October, respectively .
This year, the switch to standard time takes place in the early hours of October 24–25. In mainland Portugal and the Autonomous Region of Madeira, this means that at 2:00 a.m., the clock is set back one hour to 1:00 a.m. In the Autonomous Region of the Azores, however, the adjustment takes place at 1:00 a.m., setting the clock back to midnight.
