Avenida Marginal, also known as Estrada Nacional nº 6 (EN6), which connects the city of Lisbon to the town of Cascais (and vice versa), has a new speed limit along its entire length, limiting all drivers to 50 km/h.
The measure was announced by Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP), after several efforts to increase road safety on this road, especially after the serious accident involving three cyclists and, more recently, after a crash at the so-called “Curva do Mónaco” which threw the driver of a car into the River Tagus.
Work has already begun
Work has already begun on both roads , namely the change to the new signs from Algés to Estoril (16 kilometers), where the limits currently vary between 50 and 90 km/h. The work is expected to finish by April 18th.
During this period, traffic may be conditioned between 8am and 6pm, especially due to the removal of roadsides.
