From November 7 to 11, the tradition of the São Martinho Festival returns to Oeiras, moving this year to two new locations in the municipality: Algés and Barcarena.
Just like every year, tons of chestnuts await you, as well as the famous Carcavelos wine “Villa Oeiras.”
Where and when to enjoy chestnuts

The smell of roasted chestnuts will once again fill the streets of the municipality of Oeiras. The São Martinho celebration promises to warm up the fall with three days of chestnut festivals spread across different parishes, in an event that usually brings together thousands of people outdoors.
Admission is free once again; thus, the chestnuts prepared in large street roasters and the nonstop entertainment are also free.
To accompany the traditional plate of “quentes e boas,” the iconic Carcavelos fortified wine “Villa Oeiras” is a must, served in the local tradition straight into the glass.

This year, the event will take place in more locations throughout the municipality, making it easier for more families to attend. The bonfires will burn continuously from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.:
- Saturday, November 7
- Sunday, November 8
- Wednesday, November 11 (St. Martin’s Day)
Christmas Lights Ceremony

Right on the first day of the São Martinho Festivities, on November 7 at 6 p.m. in Largo 5 de Outubro, another magical event will take place: the lighting of the Christmas lights in Oeiras.
Bringing this date forward promises to give São Martinho an even more festive atmosphere, combining two seasons that are very dear to all Portuguese people.
