It’s called the “silent disco” slumber party, it’ s going to take place all over Europe and it’s calling attention to the fact that more and better night trains are needed.
The peaceful “protest” action, which has the support of the European networks Stay Grounded and Back on Track, will take place on October 25 at various train stations across Europe, with Santa Apolónia station being the chosen location in Portugal where fans of this greener way of traveling will gather, seeking and demanding a more efficient solution to international mobility in times of environmental crisis.
How does this slumber party work?
It’s simple and fun, although the theme is very serious! On October 25, at 7.30pm, all you have to do is show up at Pier 3 of Santa Apolónia station in Lisbon, preferably in your pyjamas (the organization says you can bring your sleeping mask, pillow and soft toys, which are always welcome) , cell phone and headphones/earphones.
Then, using a QR code, you’ll be connected to a DJ who will be playing sound for all the participants at the various European stations in Barcelona, Berlin, Copenhagen, London, Nantes, Hamburg and Zurich.
This action will last about an hour and serves to “ask” for more night trains, which are more comfortable and allow you to make long journeys across the Old Continent, replacing air travel, which is ecologically more damaging for the environment.
Consequently, this event also serves to protest against air traffic at Lisbon Airport.
If you want to invite all your friends to take part in this movement, check out the event‘s Facebook page.
