It’s no news to anyone that the city of Lisbon has been suffering from the high number of tourists it receives every year. But it’s not the only one: the travel portal Fodor’s Travel has listed 15 destinations to avoid in 2025.
And we went to see them, and the reasons for this decision.

First, the reasons!
Lisbon being on this list should come as no surprise; after all , “having too much” is almost always a sign of bad results, and moderating the doses, whatever the subject, seems to be more satisfactory for all parties and, in this case of tourism, the city and its residents are becoming quite saturated.
Among the various reasons that travel portal Fodor’s Travel has listed for the cities you shouldn’t visit in 2025 are, of course, the excess of tourists and the resulting protests from residents.
The portal’s list is called “No List” and explains that, despite being incredible places and highly recommended, both in terms of beauty and culture, 2025 will not be the most pleasant year for a future visit, as the local community in these places feels somewhat marginalized and with living conditions and well-being considerably worse than before these “floods”.
Emerging issues today are the lack of housing in the city (much of what existed has given way to LAs – Local Accommodation), as well as the high rental prices.
According to the same website,
These tensions need to be addressed. Otherwise, the world’s favorite destinations may remain so for generations to come.”

The “black” list of cities not to visit in 2025
As well as Lisbon, you’ve probably noticed that other European cities are on this list, such as Barcelona, Mallorca and the Canary Islands (Spain), Agrigento and Venice (Italy), just to mention the ones closest to us.
North Coast 500 (Scotland), Bali (Indonesia ), Koh Samui (Thailand) , Mount Everest, British Virgin Islands, Kerala (India), Kyoto and Tokyo (Japan), and Oaxaca (Mexico) make up the rest of the destinations to avoid in 2025.
The website also states that this list does not serve as a “boycott” of travel to these paradises, pointing out that it only aims to list the cities or places that really need to recognize that there is a problem, and that it needs to be taken seriously, to the detriment of making it even worse in the future.
