The most secret underground room at Terreiro do Paço is one of the places that allows you to “travel” to the great civilizations of the past; after having already welcomed around 30,000 visitors on an immersive journey to the pyramids of Egypt, it will now feature a new destination: the majestic Andes mountain range, specifically Machu Picchu.
Starting June 18, the mythical Inca city will arrive in the Portuguese capital with a virtual reality (VR) experience designed to recreate every physical and historical detail of this ancient and lost civilization.
Military and archaeological technology in the service of entertainment
The exhibition “Machu Picchu: Journey to the Lost City” is not merely a 360-degree video. Co-produced by Fever and the studio Virtual Worlds, a specialist in large-scale interactive formats, this immersive experience allows you to move “freely” within a spacious room while , through the screen of your virtual reality goggles, you explore the sacred temples, rugged trails, and agricultural terraces of the iconic UNESCO World Heritage Cultural Landscape.
And to ensure that the recreation of the Peruvian city is accurate, the production team did not resort to approximations; the setting was mapped down to the millimeter using multiple drones, advanced photogrammetry techniques , and LiDAR technology, which is a laser sensor system frequently used in archaeology and the creation of high-precision 3D models.

The result of this technical data collection is an incredible level of photorealism that allows the historical narrative to stand out even more. During each of these sessions, you’ll be able to “fly” side by side with condors (one of the largest birds on the planet) over the vastness of the Andes, traverse inaccessible paths, and even witness a rare solar eclipse from inside a typical Inca dwelling. Wow!!!
Terreiro do Paço: Lisbon’s new virtual tourism hub

The launch of this journey through the Peruvian Andes reinforces the importance of the underground hall at the Terreiro do Paço Metro Station as the country’s main virtual reality center, joining the “Horizonte de Quéops” experience , which means you can enjoy both experiences on the same day, in the same space.
This offering guarantees all Lisbon residents and tourists a true “time passport,” allowing them to choose their favorite era to explore, traveling to the banks of the Nile or climbing to the mountain heights of Peru, all without having to pack their bags and endure long hours of flight.
