Tired of waiting hours to get into a museum? Or are you looking for breathtaking landscapes, but without the crowds? On the one hand, Europe has some very popular tourist destinations, such as our beautiful city of Lisbon; on the other, there are still some real ‘hidden gems’ that stand out for remaining untouched by mass tourism.
Riviera Travel has identified not one, not two, not three, but ten lesser-explored European destinations where local culture flourishes and opportunities for authentic experiences abound. To compile the top 10, the cruise operator used Eurostat data on the countries where tourists spent the fewest nights.
The ten destinations with the fewest tourists

Based on statistics on the number of nights spent in tourist accommodation in each country, there is one destination in particular that stands out for its lack of visitors: Liechtenstein. Located between Switzerland and Austria, it is considered one of the smallest countries in the world and also the least visited in Europe.
According to the available data, in 2024, Liechtenstein recorded only 228,579 nights in tourist accommodation, followed by North Macedonia with 2,180,510 and Luxembourg with 3,684,469. But let’s now take a look at the complete top 10 (in ascending order)?
- Liechtenstein
- North Macedonia
- Luxembourg
- Latvia
- Montenegro
- Estonia
- Albania
- Lithuania
- Malta
- Serbia
