On the very weekend that Lisbon officially dresses up for Christmas with the inauguration of the lights, another event brings a different glow to the city: Mercadinho Domus, which returns on November 22 and 23 for its biggest edition ever, now taking place over two full days, while also increasing its offer of producers, national brands and free activities.
More than just a place to find the ideal gift, this charity market has a clear mission: to support those who need it most. And the concept is simple: there is no ticket office. Entry is made by handing over essential goods. Let’s find out more!
The “currency” of exchange is solidarity
For the third year, Mercadinho Domus is inviting visitors to exchange the value of a ticket for a direct contribution, which this year is going directly to Lar de Santo António da Cidade de Santarém, an institution with 154 years of history that welcomes 33 children and young people, aged 3 to 21.
This organization, which focuses on creating a good family environment, ensuring education, routines and preparation for adult life, includes a specific list of needs, so here are the essential items for these young people’s daily lives:
- School supplies:
- Notebooks, pencils, pens, backpacks, cases.
- Personal hygiene:
- Toothbrushes and toothpaste, shampoo, shower gel, body cream.
- Intimate hygiene:
- Sanitary towels, shaving foam, aftershave, cotton pads, acetone.
- Clothes (can be second-hand):
- Jeans and sweatshirts.
- Food (dry):
- Pasta, rice, sugar, olive oil, oil, chocolate powder, milk.
As a gesture of thanks, and to reinforce the spirit of sharing, each donation at the entrance is rewarded with a cone of freshly made popcorn.
Domus Market program
On November 22 and 23, in addition to the craft stalls , traditional flavors and unique gift ideas from national producers, the program of parallel activities is the most packed to date.
The highlight is the freeshowcookings (with tastings ) by the pastry chef from Snow Cakes, when visitors can learn the secrets to a perfect lemon curd, healthy Christmas cookies and even savory palmiers, ideal for cooking with the little ones.
For families, Story Time promises to entertain the kids with a visit from the famous mouse Benny.
For food lovers, there will be a cheese, sausage and wine tasting, perfect for warming up the atmosphere and inspiring Christmas tables.
