The question is simple, yet confusing: “Do you have the Adventure Gene?”
We admit we didn’t even know such a thing existed; it took Turismo de Tenerife announcing that they were coming to Lisbon to try to find Portuguese people with this adventurous genetic trait— according to experts, one in five carries this genetic variant.
Still confused? We’ll explain everything!
Tenerife is looking for Portuguese people to test a new route on the island

The challenge from Turismo de Tenerife is easy to explain: on April 30, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., they will set up a mobile lab, the “Gen Explorer Lab,” in Lisbon, at Praça da Figueira.
The goal is to find Portuguese people who carry the DRD4-7R genetic variant, known as the “Explorer Gene,” so they can apply to become Official Testers for this Spanish island.
What do you have to do, and what are the prizes for those selected?

The DNA tests to find out if you’re part of the 20% of the world’s population with a penchant for the unknown are free and can be performed—using a saliva sample— at this mobile lab by healthcare professionals.
If you’re one of those selected, you’ll have the opportunity to travel to Tenerife and use your innate talents as an explorer to identify , with the help of local experts, a brand-new route: the “Explorer Gene Route.”
