Yesterday we sang happy birthday to the 27th anniversary of Expo’98 and the best part was the inauguration of the North Tower of the Pavilhão de Portugal, which now houses three important spaces that will further increase the city’s cultural, academic and historical offer, especially a library.
It’s inside this new tower that you’ll find Lisbon’s newest library, the António Mega Ferreira Library, in homage to one of Expo’98’s greatest mentors.
Open 24 hours a day, every day of the week, the new reading space in Parque das Nações includes a fabulous personal collection of around 25,000 books, in a partnership involving Lisbon City Council, the Parque das Nações Parish Council, the University of Lisbon and the author’s heirs.
The António Mega Ferreira Library will thus become part of the Lisbon Libraries network . However, as it is a personal heritage, the collection of books can only be consulted on site, so that anyone interested can learn more about the honoree, recognized as one of the greatest intellectuals of recent decades.
As well as the books, here you’ll also find some works published during Expo’98, in a project carried out by the recently-opened Expo 98 Interpretive Center, which will operate in the same Tower.
