The opening of Zara ‘s second-largest high street store in Lisbon, in Rossio, was a unique event in the capital and in the world, but there’s something new that you may have missed, which is the small space where you can eat one of the best pastéis de nata in the city, made by Atelier Castro. It’s called “Zara by Castro”!
It’s the first collaboration of its kind between the Spanish fashion giant and a pastry shop, which happens to be very well known in the capital for its delicious pastéis de nata , one of our favorites, and which is even among the 12 finalists for Lisbon’s Best Pastel de Nata in 2024.
A delicious partnership
The new “Zara by Castro” cafeteria is located in a “corner” of the 5,000m2 new Zara store in Lisbon, known for being a breath of fresh air when it comes to ready-to-wear stores.
And best of all: you don’t even have to go into the clothing store to try one of these pastéis de nata, as the cafeteria itself has its own door from Praça da Figueira where, incidentally, you can also find the recently opened Pastelaria Suíça.
It is located on the first floor of Zara and is beautifully decorated, with minimalist details and some of the building’s historical elements, right on the site of the former Manteigaria União, which dates back to 1900.
Inside you’ll find tables with stone tops and small round benches, giving it a modern and relaxed atmosphere, close to (but far from) the hustle and bustle of this part of the capital.
The classic menu
At the small counter, between one purchase and the next, you can enjoy a wide range of products, including Castro’s boxes of custard tarts (1=1.60€; 2=3.20€; 6=9.60€; 12=19.20€; and 24=38,40€)and, of course, various comfort drinks such as coffees, cappuccinos (2,75€), macchiatos ( 2 , 25€ ) , hot chocolate (2,95€ ) and various teas (2,95€), with natural juices (2,50€) and waters also available.
If you’re also a fan of Castro’s pastéis de nata, you’ ll know that they have two stores nearby: one on Rua Garrett and the other on Rua Áurea, creating a real triangle of gulodice (laughs) in downtown Lisbon.
Address: Praça da Figueira 3C (Baixa)
Opening hours: Monday to Saturday, from 10am to 8pm; Sundays from 12pm to 8pm
