During the week, we are ‘consumed’ by the routine of work and/or studies, and there seems to be little or no time left for leisure and entertainment. So the question is: what to do during the week?
From exhibitions to musicals, we’ve decided to put together some of the best activities to do in and around Lisbon. All you have to do is enjoy!
Eating and enjoying the best views
In Lisbon, there are several restaurants with stunning views where you can enjoy a delicious meal while gazing at monuments, the Tagus River and, of course, the colorful houses of Baixa.
In this context, we’ve prepared a guide to some of the best spots and in this article you can find all the suggestions, but for now we’d like to highlight, for example:
- 1147 Lisboa
- Eleven
- Seen Sky Bar by Olivier, among other places.
Feel the adrenaline of speed in karting
If you’re a thrill-seeker and like to accelerate at full speed, then karting is probably a good plan for you.
Although there is no karting track in the heart of the capital, there are some (very good) options in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area.
So all you have to do is take a look at our article and choose your favorite spot to try out, or repeat a ‘nail to the wall’ experience. Best of all, you can do it alone or together.
Take an urban art tour
More and more, the city of Lisbon is becoming a kind of open-air gallery, with murals scattered all over the place. That’s why, for this week, we recommend a route through the best of urban art.
After all, in Lisbon alone, you’ll find four works that were recently nominated for the Street Art Cities Best of Awards. Take the opportunity to walk around and appreciate art, without emptying your wallet!
Stop by the Winter Fair
If you can’t do without entertainment, then you really must stop by Terrapleno de Santos to make the most of the Winter Fair.
Organized by the Estrela Parish Council, this family-friendly event includes handicrafts, traditional games and products, a rollercoaster, a Ferris wheel and more.
What’s new this year is the inclusion of an ice rink!
Address: Avenida Brasília 254 (Terrapleno de Santos)
Opening hours: from January 23 to March 16
Tickets: free
Lunch for less than €8
Starting this Monday, February 3, there is a new campaign at Padaria Portuguesa, which has been dubbed “Almoçar à Portuguesa”, with the production of two dishes of the day, available on weekdays.
But best of all, you can enjoy the new delicacies with complete menus (with the dish and juice of the day) for just €7.99. Would you like to try it? Find out more in this article.
Attending concerts by candlelight
The low temperatures typical of winter don’t call for outdoor activities. So how about a different program, in an intimate and cozy setting?
This week, Lisbon’s cultural agenda brings us more Candlelight concerts:
- Candlelight: The Best of Abba, at the Altis Grand Hotel
- Candlelight: The Best of Hans Zimmer, at the Altis Grand Hotel
Exhibition at São Jorge Castle
After the music, how about an exhibition to enrich the agenda of your week in Lisbon? “The Revolt of the Castle (1928)” is on display in the Ogival Room of São Jorge Castle until May 31st.
If you want to know a bit more about the exhibition before you go, then we can tell you that it’s part of the 50th anniversary celebrations of April 25th.
In this particular case, the narrative takes us back to July 20, 1928, when the 7th Hunters Battalion, which was stationed at São Jorge Castle, led a movement against the dictatorial regime.
Address: Sala Ogival do Castelo de São Jorge
Opening hours: every day until May 31st
Photography exhibition
If you like exhibitions, then one of the things to do this week in Lisbon is to visit the exhibition dedicated to Hosoe Eikoh, one of the greatest references in Japanese photography.
On show at Ochre Space, the exhibition features 15 photographs from the series “Ordeal by Roses (Barakei)”, created in the 1960s, and focuses on the iconic Japanese writer Yukio Mishima. Admission is free.
Address: Rua da Bica do Marquês 31 A, Ajuda
Opening hours: from January 15th, Wednesday to Saturday, from 3pm to 6.30pm
Rock opera “Fátima”
On the Portuguese cultural scene, Filipe La Féria needs no introduction. With a long career full of hits, “Fátima” is one of his most recent productions.
If you haven’t had the chance yet, take the opportunity to go to the Teatro Politeama and see this rock opera, inspired by the famous religious events of the early 20th century.
Address: Teatro Politeama, Rua das Portas de Santo Antão
Schedule: until February 28, 2025
Editor’s note: this article is updated weekly so that you don’t miss out on the best of the agenda in and around Lisbon!
