They say that “Christmas is whenever you want it to be.” So , how about applying the same logic to Carnival? After all, it’s never too late to join in the Carnival revelry, especially when it comes to the “most Portuguese Carnival in Portugal.” So, get your best costume ready and mark your calendar: the Torres Vedras Carnival is definitely happening, from April 30 to May 3.
“Ready for what’s going to be ‘A Hell of a Party’?” That’s how the Torres Vedras City Council announced the new dates for the celebration on its Instagram . Originally scheduled for February 12–18, the local government had to postpone the festivities due to the devastating effects of bad weather.

We recall that, at the time, the Torres Vedras City Council defined as a top priority the “recovery of the area and support for affected families.” Even so, it announced its intention to “hold the event when and if conditions in the area permit.”
Known as “the most Portuguese of Portugal,” the origins of the Torres Vedras Carnival date back to the 19th century, but it was in 1923 that the first organized street celebrations emerged. Since 2023, it has been listed as National Intangible Cultural Heritage.
