Lisbon has longceased to be a ‘hidden treasure’ of Europe to become one of the best tourist destinations on the ‘Old Continent’. A frequent feature in various international rankings, the Portuguese capital now stands out in the report “Europe’s Best Cities 2026,” by Resonance.
In a top 100 led by London (United Kingdom), Paris (France), and Berlin (Germany), the city of the ‘Seven Hills’ appears in 13th position. However , it is not the only Portuguese representative, as Porto also appears in 38th position.
What is this study?
It is not a simple list of preferences. TheResonance ranking evaluates several cities based on a rigorous analysis that combines statistical data with the real perceptions of residents and visitors. The goal? To identify where people most want to live, work, and visit.
What methodology was used?
As a starting point, Resonance only considered European metropolitan areas with more than 500,000 people, based on data from Eurostat and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.
In addition, more than 47 metrics were applied, framed within three fundamental pillars: livability, lovability, and prosperity. In this edition, the methodology was also reinforced with a partnership with Ipsos, integrating the direct opinion of thousands of Europeans about their dream cities.
Lisbon’s position
The Portuguese capital appears in 13th place and is considered a true European “It City.” Here, the public transport system, the ease of cycling with dedicated lanes, as well as new openings that promise to continue to make Lisbon a tourist destination of choice are highlighted.
