We’ve just found out the winner of O Melhor Pastel de Nata 2025, the competition that every year pits some of Lisbon’s best pastéis de nata against each other ... and which, this year, once again had 12 finalists.
The dozen pastry shops that went through to the grand final, which took place at the Kitchen Congress in the Marquês de Pombal Gardens in Oeiras, were chosen after three intense days of tasting, in what was the 16th edition of this competition, which annually honors the house that has the most irresistible pastel de nata.

How the competition works
This competition has existed since 2009 and is organized by Edições do Gosto, with the gastronomic curatorship of Virgílio Nogueiro Gomes, who each year gives a jury the difficult task of choosing the best pastel de nada in Greater Lisbon, through a blind tasting and following an impartial analysis according to five important criteria:
- appearance
- touch of dough
- taste and consistency of the pastry
- quality of the filling
- overall taste

The 2025 jury
In addition to Nogueiro Gomes, who is also president, this year’s panel of judges included names linked to pastry and gastronomy in general:
- Davide Cunha (Pastry Chef)
- Beatriz Matias (Pastry Chef Mapa – L’and Vineyards)
- Isabel Zibaia Rafael (Author and Blogger)
- Paulo Amado (Director – Edições do Gosto)
- Joana Barrios (Presenter 24 Kitchen and Author)
According to Nogueiro Gomes,
Today, we have pastéis de nata of increasingly higher quality, and this initiative contributes to the recognition of the product at national and international level.”

And the winner is…
Pastelaria Aloma, which is one of our favorite pastry shops in Lisbon, won the 2025 O Melhor Pastel de Nata de Lisboa competition, which it had also won in 2024, and three other times in previous editions, for a total of five victories.
It’s an affirmation of the quality of our pastel de nata in 16 years of competition. It’s the fifth time we’ve won, it’s a source of pride. The secret? It’s doing good, several times and with quality products,” says João Castanheira, owner of the pastry shop.

The 12 pastéis de nata that went through to the final
In third and second place, respectively, were Confeitaria Glória ( winner in 2023), and an absolute first, O Pãozinho das Marias, in Ericeira.

Of the 40 establishments that submitted their pastel de nata to this competition, only 12 made it to the final:
- Café Ponte da Várzea, Sintra
- Casa do Padeiro, Queluz
- Confeitaria da Glória, Amadora
- Diamantino e Alberto, Lisbon
- O Pãozinho das Marias, Ericeira
- Padaria da Né*, Damaia

The establishments marked with an asterisk were granted direct access because they achieved one of the top three places in the previous edition, won by Pastelaria Aloma.
