Some people cringe just looking at them; others can’t go without a platter full of snails and a cold beer to go with them. If you’re one of those whose mouth waters just thinking about this delicacy, we have a suggestion: the 5th edition of the Snail Festival.
The food festival is set to “take over” the Algés Market in the municipality of Oeiras from May 21 to 24. With completely free admission, the event’s program goes beyond the snail craze, featuring live music, DJs, and a broadcast of the Portuguese Cup final.
There are snacks for everyone
In addition to snails, the food festival features a wide variety of other traditional snacks, such as roasted snail stew, fried cuttlefish, pork sandwiches with fries, caldo verde, croquettes, stewed or grilled gizzards, and various desserts.
From funk to rock

The 5th edition of the Snail Festival serves as a gathering place for friends and families; and proof of this is that the event’s program isn’t limited to snacks, featuring various musical performances:
- May 21 and 24: DJ Pedro Diaz will be in charge of entertaining the crowd, starting at 7 p.m.
- May 22: Singer Filipe Gonçalves brings his funk, soul, and R&B sounds, starting at 7 p.m.
- May 23: GM will headline a special tribute to the legendary Xutos & Pontapés, starting at 7 p.m.
Food and the thrill of soccer
In this edition of the Snail Festival, there’s another star besides the food—namely, soccer. That’s because the event’s final day coincides with the broadcast of the Portuguese Cup final between Sporting and Torreense, starting at 5:15 p.m.
