The 11th Great Rowing Boat Regatta takes place on September 5, and this year there are more spots available for you to participate —at no cost— with the number of free registrations increasing from 50 to 60.
If you’ve always dreamed of captaining a boat but lack the boat, the sea, and the skills, Campo Grande Lake has the solution on the first Saturday of September, starting at 3 p.m. Let’s find out everything!
Live music and prizes for those who don’t capsize
Once again, the well-known radio host Fernando Alvim takes the helm of what is now the 11th edition of the Great Rowing Boat Regatta.
And because a decade of experience means raising the bar, this year’s event has expanded: the 50-team limit has been exceeded, now making room for 60 crews of intrepid “freshwater sailors.”
Another major highlight of this edition takes place out of the water; right after the maneuvering (and any mishaps) with the oars, the garden lawn will host a special concert by GANSO, scheduled for 5 p.m., providing the perfect excuse to keep the crowd on-site and bring this late-summer afternoon to a spectacular close.
Registration (free of charge) and prizes
Signing up to take the helm of one of these boats is completely free, but it does require a bit of creativity beforehand.
To secure one of the 60 spots, you must register your team using the event form, including a brief introduction of the group —the more creative, the better— and a photo of the team members. And yes, deliberately absurd photo montages are very welcome.
The top three finishers (men and women) will be awarded a trophy commemorating their victory, as well as prizes provided by Somersby and Worten.
