One of the most important cultural events to take place in Lisbon, the Poetry Book Fair, is going to take place again, after being postponed due to the Martin Depression, which left the country in “swamps” last March.
This time in different locations, at the Cinema Europa Library/Cultural Space and at Casa Fernando Pessoa, the 8th Poetry Book Fair will take place between June 26 and 29, in a partnership between Casa Fernando Pessoa and the Campo de Ourique Parish Council.
With a wide variety of activities, such as book presentations, workshops, readings and shows, this event once again promises to attract thousands of poetry lovers to the Campo de Ourique neighborhood.
The importance of poetry in Portuguese literature
With previous editions taking place in the Jardim da Parada, the Poetry Book Fair highlights the importance of poetry in Portuguese literature, as well as internationally, always highlighting the works of poets of our day, as well as those already established.
In this sense, Casa Fernando Pessoa plays a key role in organizing yet another event that promotes culture and literature through free activities.
Program and activities
Although registration is required for some activities, the entire event is free.
You’ll be able to count on book launches and discussions about new works of poetry; workshops for creating and reflecting on this type of writing; meetings with poets and experts to discuss the art of poetry; and recitals to celebrate poetry in its different forms of demonstration:
- June 26, at 3pm, at the Cinema Europa Library/Cultural Space: opening ceremony with Clara Riso, director of Casa Fernando Pessoa, Hugo Vieira da Silva, president of the Campo de Ourique Parish Council;
- June 28, at 6pm, in the Library/ Cinema Europa Cultural Space: presentation of the book Sabão Azul e Branco, by Mónica Marques, Editora Urutau;
- June 29, 11.30/14.30/15.30, at Casa Fernando Pessoa: workshop “Make your Flag”;
- June 29, at 5pm, at the Cinema Europa Library/Cultural Space: “Meigo energúmeno notas para uma leitura antimachista” by Vinicius de Moraes, by Luca Argel, Editora Urutau.
The Poetry Book Fair has a habit of attracting a very diverse audience, and the move to the new venue could bring even more people to this cultural event in Lisbon, thus strengthening the offer in this area.
Its continuity, which also aims to maintain a meeting point for poets and poetry lovers, is extremely important for the cultural development of any city, so the guarantee of a rich program accessible to the public was taken into account.
