Palácio Baldaya will celebrate its ninth anniversary from August 29 to September 1, with a free program organized by the Benfica Parish Council: theater for babies, a choro concert, outdoor movies, and much more.
A palace with more than two centuries of history
The building dates back to 1783, the year of the first historical reference to Quinta do Desembargador, which would later become Quinta da Baldaya. The current name comes from Maria Joana Baldaya, who lived there between 1840 and 1859. In 1908, the government acquired the palace to house the National Laboratory for Veterinary Research, which closed in 1913; after that, the site remained closed to the public for over a century. It was not until 2017, following restoration work, that it reopened as the parish’s cultural center, managed by the Benfica Parish Council ever since.

Saturday, August 29: sensorytheater for babies, “Cô-Cô-Ró-Có,” by bYfurcação Teatro (11 a.m.); concert by the Trio Choro Lusitano (5 p.m.); screening of the film “Marty Supreme,” starring Timothée Chalamet, nominated for nine Oscars (10 p.m.).
Sunday, August 30: children’splay “João Pé de Feijão” (11 a.m.); musical animation show “Três Palmas na Mão” (5 p.m.).
Tuesday, September 1: closingconcert “A Música Portuguesa a Gostar Dela Própria” (7:00 p.m.).
