The parish of Carnide is more modern than ever, after the Padre Cruz Neighborhood Market was inaugurated on May 31, 2025, following a major redevelopment that cost 3.4 million euros.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Mayor of Lisbon, Carlos Moedas, who praised the importance of our space in promoting social cohesion and dynamism in this area of Lisbon.
It’s much more than a market. What the architect Diogo Figueiredo has done here is community. What he has done here is a market that is open to everyone.”
A project – by an architect – at the service of the community
Financed by Lisbon City Council and executed by Carnide Parish Council, Lisbon’s newest market was developed with the aim of revitalizing economic activity in this area of Lisbon, while at the same time offering better conditions for traders and consumers.
Diogo Figueiredo, the architect responsible for the intervention, made a point of maintaining the market’s original square, reinforcing its main structures and renovating the interior to create flexible areas adaptable to various needs.
Thus, in the renovated Padre Cruz Neighborhood Market you’ll find an area of fixed stalls and a mobile one, allowing the space itself to adapt to different requirements or activities, such as catering or educational initiatives at the service of the community.
The investment in the refurbishment of this municipal market is yet another measure by the city council to enhance the Padre Cruz neighborhood, increasing its dynamics and promoting encounters between generations and cultures, promising to be a meeting point for residents and visitors.
With this reopening, Carnide gains a “new” market and is better prepared to respond to the current and future needs of this community.
