When the good weather arrives, you feel like enjoying rooftops and other activities outside. So, take advantage of the longer, sunnier days to attend outdoor movie screenings in Lisbon’s emblematic locations from May onwards.
The cloisters of the Igreja da Graça, the Palácio do Grilo and the Doca da Marinha are some of the places where you can watch movies away from the traditional movie theaters. At the moment, there are two initiatives in the spotlight, namely Black Cat Cinema and Cine Society.
A look at Black Cat Cinema
Created in 2021, this project aims to redefine the movie-going experience, including not only film screenings, but also live music and a food lounge with smash burgers and pizzas, among other options.
The 2025 season runs from May 12 to July 29, and the program includes all-time classics, Oscar winners and, of course, audience favorites.
But if watching movies outdoors is at least a different experience, it’s even more interesting when the chosen settings are the cloisters of the Igreja da Graça and the Palácio do Grilo.
“American Psycho”, “American Beauty”, “Cinema Paradiso”, “Lost In Translation”, “Amélie” and “Dead Poet’s Society” are some of the films on the program, which can be viewed in full here.
Cine Society sessions
Another open-air cinema initiative that is returning from May 10 is Cine Society, which runs until September. The screenings will take place in two equally emblematic settings:
- The Carmo Ruins, at the Carmo Rooftop
- And the Doca da Marinha, by the river
The program includes heavyweight titles such as “Asteroid City”, “La La Land”, “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” and “I’m Still Here”, among others. But you can see the full poster here.
