On September 13 and 14, 53 historical sites will be open to the public of all ages for another fascinating journey, with guided tours by archaeologists who are passionate about the past and its stories, especially those buried in our city.
The Museum of Lisbon’s Archaeology Open House returns for its fourth edition and, as in previous years, we’re sure it will sell out quickly, even though registration was not open at the time of writing this article.
In this two-day event, which is free of charge but subject to the capacity of the 53 venues you can visit, you will discover Lisbon’s oldest history.

Free guided tours of 53 archaeological sites
On September 13 and 14, the event offers free guided tours of 53 sites, a significant increase on last year’s 44.
Each of them has intriguing stories, from Belém to Beato, with some of these sites being “opened” to the public for the first time, from private homes, parking lots, hotels and, of course, museums, all of which unveil well-hidden secrets.
Among the places available to visit, we highlight:
- An entire wing of the Jerónimos Monastery;
- A Fernandina wall in a hotel;
- A palace in the Largo de Camões parking lot;
- A convent in a hotel in downtown Lisbon;
- A hidden house in Lisbon’s Roman Theater;
- Archaeological pieces in São Jorge Castle;
Registration opens soon
All the guided tours to these sites will be carried out by expert archaeologists, who will take you on a journey back to prehistoric times. All you need to do is sign up, usually at an email address that the organization has not yet made available.
So keep an eye on this article and, as soon as we know more, you’ll be the first to know.
