Do you like stories about kings and princesses? Then medieval fairs are the perfect event for you… and best of all, there’s a spectacular recreation coming up less than an hour from Lisbon: the Óbidos Medieval Market.
From July 17 to 27, what is considered to be one of the most beautiful medieval towns in Europe is hosting an initiative full of entertainment for all ages.
This year’s event is under the theme “Between Myth, Love and Tragedy”, alluding to the dramatic story of Pedro and Inês de Castro, the queen crowned after her death.

What to expect at the Óbidos Medieval Market?
With one of Portugal ‘s most impressive castles as a backdrop, Óbidos will be gearing up for an immersive journey back in time, with lots of activities such as:
- Historical parades
- Iron and Fire” tournaments
- Artistic music and dance performances
- Night-time torchlight shows
- Period market
- Taverns and stalls with traditional delicacies and drinks
- Games
- Workshops
- Animal camping
- Falconry demonstrations and much more.

Around 150,000 people expected
According to a statement from Óbidos Town Hall, quoted by the newspaper Alvorada, around 150,000 people are expected for the 2025 edition, a figure that reflects the scale of the event.
In all, during 11 days of time travel, the Óbidos Medieval Market will have 9 different performance areas and more than 150 entertainers, with an investment of half a million euros.

Timetables & other useful information
If you’re in the mood for a seasonal experience, you should know that timetables differ according to the day of the week. So pay attention to the following information:
- Monday to Thursday, between 5pm and midnight
- On Fridays, from 5pm to 2am
- On Saturdays, from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m.
- Sundays, from 11 a.m. to midnight
