Mercadona, the famous Spanish retailer, continues to invest heavily in its expansion policy in Portugal. We recently announced the opening of a store in Loures, but it looks like the brand will finally land in the center of Lisbon as early as 2025.
According to an official source quoted by ECO, the Lisbon supermarket will be located in Alta de Lisboa, more specifically on Rua Hermínio da Palma Inácio, in the parish of Santa Clara. In all, the building is expected to take place on a plot of land with a total area of 5000 m2.
However, this is not the only news that can be read on the ECO website. According to the same source, in addition to the new Mercadona store in Lisbon, the project also includes the construction of a floor where a co-innovation center will be located. At the moment, no specific dates are known.
How big is Mercadona in Lisbon?
Since opening its first supermarket in 2019, in Canidelo, Vila Nova de Gaia, the Spanish retailer has not stopped growing. In fact, it is estimated that it has already invested a total of 1 billion euros in Portugal, creating around 6,000 new jobs.
