No one expects Carnival in Portugal to take place in high temperatures, or that it should always coincide with the coldest season. Even so, this year, successive storms have not only caused great damage, but have also led to the cancellation of countless Carnival celebrations throughout the country. Despite this, there is one city in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area where the revelry continues: Loures.
Considered one of the biggest Carnival celebrations near the capital, this year, the city of Loures invites everyone to embark on a Journey Through Time that covers different periods of history. In this sense, the traditional carnival parade scheduled for February 17 (Tuesday), starting at 2:30 p.m., promises lots of music and color with distinguished representatives of ancient civilizations, as well as kings, navigators, and artists from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.
The golden years of modernity have not been forgotten, nor has a preview of what the future may hold . To bring this time portal to life, the Loures Carnival has a total of 2,600 participants, 20 carnival groups, and 15 floats.
The big news

The Loures Carnival program is extensive and includes several activities that can be found here. However , one of the highlights is the Youth Nights, the first edition of which took place on February 14 (Saturday), with a repeat on February 16 (Monday).
To celebrate youth and revelry, the Loures Carnival organizers have brought the nighttime entertainment to Rua da República, one of the main local thoroughfares, and to a Youth Stage set up in Parque das Tinalhas.
