This Thursday , 26-year-old Iuri Leitão inscribed his name in the history of the Olympic Games. The youngster, from Viana do Castelo, won the silver medal in omnium track cycling.
The Portuguese is no stranger to the sport, or he wouldn’t be the world champion in the specialty (title won in Glasgow, 2023). However, this Thursday (August 8) it went further than ever before.
Iuri Leitão finished the omnium race with a total of 153 points, second only to French Olympic champion Benjamin Thomas (164) and ahead of Belgian Fábio van den Bossche (131).
With this achievement, adds to the bronze by Patrícia Sampaio(judo -78kg), Portugal currently has two Olympic medals. Will we be applauding any more?
