From September 14 to 21, it’s time once again to celebrate the ancestral rhythms and traditions of the Iberian Peninsula in Lisbon, with music, seminars and the highlight, of course, the XVI International Iberian Mask Parade.
The parade, which pays homage to the customs of other times in different regions of the Iberian Peninsula and Europe, will take place on September 21, at around 4:30 p.m., departing from Praça do Município.
According to a press release sent to Lisboa Secret, this year’s edition is special because it has more than 500 participants from 32 groups from four countries: Portugal, Spain, Greece and Italy.
Groups in the International Iberian Mask Parade
Among the more than 30 groups taking part, the following groups stand out, for example:
- Caretos de Podence (Macedo de Cavaleiros)
- Pauliteiros de Miranda do Douro
- Bugios e Mourisqueiros de Valongo
- Los Sidros y la Comedia de Valdesoto (Asturias, Spain)
- Mazquate (Venice, Italy)
- Volakas/Drama (Greece), among many others.
Other activities included in the initiative
Despite the fact that the XVI edition of the International Iberian Mask Parade represents the highlight of the initiative, there are still other moments on the program, namely:
- Free-entry musical show “Tradição Contemporânea”, on September 14, at 9:30 p.m., in the Agostinho da Silva auditorium of the Lusófona University
- Seminar “The Mask is there where the Man is”, on September 19, at 3pm, in the José Araújo room, at Universidade Lusófona
