If you have plans for September 13 (Saturday), cancel all those that don’t include a visit to the Great Rowing Boat Regatta, which is being held for the 10th year on the Campo Grande Lake.
Created by the well-known broadcaster Fernando Alvim, owner of other fun ideas full of creativity and imagination, the regatta will start at 3pm, in a very fun nautical event that will once again be filled with color, humor and creativity on Campo Grande Lake, in the Mário Soares Garden.
And many surprises are expected, as this year the Great Rowing Boat Regatta celebrates a decade of existence, establishing itself as one of the most original moments in the capital’s cultural and recreational calendar.

A competition where fun comes first
More than a nautical tournament, the regatta is an invitation to improvisation and imagination, where small, oar-powered boats receive crews made up of two to three members, the so-called “Iglo Captains”.
Each team is challenged to choose a name, prepare props and enter the water with a clear objective: to row towards victory and, who knows, return home with the official cup.
Fernando Alvim is once again at the helm of this celebration, ensuring that the festive spirit continues to mark each edition, which is always very participatory over the years, and is already a tradition that brings together families, friends and, of course, many sailors and freshwater mermaids.
In addition to the nautical races, you’ll also be able to vibe to the energetic sound of a roda de samba, which promises to warm up the atmosphere and add even more rhythm to the celebration.
What to do to take part
This meeting in Campo Grande always turns into an afternoon of celebration, open to all ages, where there will be plenty of smiles, music and creativity.
It’s worth taking part in the Great Rowing Boat Regatta (even if only as a spectator) thanks to its spontaneity, since there are no major technical rules; inclusiveness, because people of all ages can take part; imagination, due to the props and costumes that each team brings to the race; and conviviality, which turns this city lake into a unique meeting point for families and friends.
