Lisbon is a multifaceted city where you can breathe art in museums and galleries, but also outdoors. Near Terreiro do Paço, more specifically next to the Sul e Sueste River Station, you can see another piece of art – a giant can – inthe street this Friday, November 15.
But what does this art installation mean? In a press release, the National Association of Canned Fish Producers (ANICP) said that the purpose of this piece is to celebrate National Canned Fish Day, which is celebrated every year on November 15.
If you want to see the giant can up close, just stop by and take lots of photos. Pay attention, though, as it will only be there until the beginning of December.
What is National Canned Fish Day?
This date was established in 2022 with the aim of paying tribute to all those who have contributed (and are contributing) to the growth of this centuries-old industry.
It is celebrated on November 15 as a way of recognizing an industry with a great tradition in Portugal,” which continues to innovate and break new ground,” reads the ANICP statement.
Social initiative
In addition to the art installation, the president of ANICP, José Maria Freitas, took the opportunity to launch a social initiative: the “Conserving the Future” project.
The aim is to award scholarships to provide higher education opportunities for the children of canning industry workers, contributing “to a fairer future”.
