“Edgar Allan Poe Speakeasy” is an immersive cocktail experience that brings together literature, live narration by the Poe Historians, and drinks shrouded in mystery. Four signature cocktails and four iconic stories shape this engaging experience that dives directly into Poe’s gothic imagination.
Over the course of about 75 minutes, a narrator guides the audience through tales such as “The Tell-Tale Heart,” “The Black Cat, ” “The Raven , ” and “The Masque of the Red Death,” bringing them to life through an intense and immersive performance.
What is a “speakeasy” and what does it have to do with Edgar Allan Poe?
No, it doesn’t mean “speaking in a low voice” —even though the atmosphere almost calls for it. The term “speakeasy” emerged in the United States during Prohibition and referred to clandestine bars where alcohol was served away from the prying eyes of the authorities.
