From the north to the south of Portugal, more and more events and medieval fairs are taking place, allowing us all to travel back in time in an immersive way. This time, it’s time for the Castelo de São Jorge to host a similar initiative: “Dias da Idade Média” (in english, “Days in the Middle Ages”) .
From September 27 to 29, one of Lisbon’s monuments most iconic offers a various and free program, but subject to registration. But we’ll talk about that later. For now, it’s time to take a look at some of the highlights of this initiative.
What will you find in São Jorge Castle?
“Days of the Middle Ages” will take place between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m., with a program for kids and adults, inviting families to travel back in time.
On September 27, the first day of the event, there are guided tours, children’s workshops (including one dedicated to Medieval Writing), bird of prey demonstrations, a medieval dance workshop, an archery session and more.
On the second day, September 28, the program is identical, with the following new features: workshop on medieval food and a concert by Vozes Alfonsinas.
To round off the “Days in the Middle Ages” at São Jorge Castle, on the last day participants can enjoy guided tours outside the medieval fortification.
However, you can (and should) consult the complete program, including timetables for each activity: here. It is also important to note that participation is free, but subject to prior registration and maximum capacity.
