Although we are approaching Halloween, this initiative is not dedicated to Halloween. For the third year, the Cultural Week in the Cemeteries offers a varied (and free) program between tombs , museums and monasteries, from October 5 to 13.
The initiative covers the municipalities of Lisbon, Loures, Setúbal, Vila Franca de Xira and Palmela, in partnership with Santa Casa da Misericórdia. During the Cultural Week, many activities are planned, from guided and evening visits, afternoons at the tombs, workshops, musical moments and lectures.
This year, the event brings new features, including a Philosophy for Children workshop that invites families to reflect on the theme of death, as well as a Death Café. What is this? In the latter case, it’s a conversation over tea and cakes, to be held on October 8, at Edifício Saudade – Cemitério de Carnide.
Cultural Week: which cemeteries can you visit?
As the program is extensive, we’d like to highlight the cemeteries in Lisbon that are part of this initiative and that you can visit:
-
Alto de São João Cemetery
-
Prazeres Cemetery
-
Ajuda Cemetery
-
Benfica Cemetery
-
German Cemetery
-
Lisbon British Cemetery
However, if you want to take a look at the full Cultural Week in the Cemeteries poster, you can do so here.
