Located in the Madragoa district, in the former Convento das Bernardas , Lisbon’s Museu da Marioneta will close for refurbishment work from December 1st.
According to the museum itself, the work is expected to last approximately two months, with the aim of restructuring the rooms and museography.
As well as transforming and replacing some pieces, the aim is also to present “new acquisitions, donations and deposits of puppets from different parts of the world”, according to the Museu da Marioneta de Lisboa.
Prospects for the reopening (and beyond)
After this period of work, the outlook for the reopening is that the museum building will tell the story of the puppet in Portugal from the end of the 19th century to the present day.
It’s also worth mentioning that although the museum will be closed in December, the performance hall will remain open in the first half of December.
In this context, the youngest will be able to watch “The Nest” on December 7 and 8 and “John and the Beanstalk” on December 14 and 15.
