One of the Christmas moments most awaited by all Lisboners, and by those who visit the city at this time of year, is the inauguration of the Christmas lights at Armazéns do Chiado.
This year it will take place on November 16 at 6pm, marking the arrival of Christmas in downtown Lisbon.
The countdown to appreciate all the Christmas decorations and the arrival of Santa Claus is a moment to remember, and was once again accompanied by lots of musical entertainment, this year by Nook.
This year there were some great novelties
This year, the inauguration of the Christmas lights brought a great novelty: the innovative LED Mapping technology, which on October 25th helped celebrate the 25th anniversary of this shopping center, and which is now being used to bring the Christmas lights to life even more, increasing all the luminosity on the façade of Armazéns do Chiado.
The countdown to the unveiling of the Christmas lights at Armazéns do Chiado was once again a real spectacle of lights, different animations and lots of music to the sound of the jazz quintet Nook, who performed themes typical of this Christmas season.
If you weren’t able to make it to the opening, there’s great news especially for you: you can relive this moment.
Due to the huge influx of people on this date, the shopping center has created a schedule to see this light show on the façade again, in a shorter version of two minutes, every 30 minutes, from 6pm to 9:30pm, until January 12th.
Chiado’s iconic Christmas tree will once again be one of the event’s biggest attractions, being switched on every day between 5pm and 10pm.
More Christmas news
The Chiado area is recognized as one of the areas of the city where this festive season is experienced most intensely, mainly due to the large number of stores and, of course, all the decorations evoking the Christmas spirit.
Armazéns do Chiado will also be creating moments and campaigns, including the decoration of the Carris 25 streetcar, which usually runs between Cais do Sodré and Campo das Cebolas, passing through various iconic areas of the city.
The shopping center is also promoting a campaign to collect toys, inviting all visitors to donate items that they no longer use, so that they can be sent to charitable institutions, providing a happier Christmas for children in need.
And, of course, Santa Claus will be another confirmed presence, starting on December 1st, when he will present all the children with the 18th edition of the book “Gui e o Quadro da Felicidade”.
It’s time to put an appointment in your calendar to go and see his iconic Christmas tree, which will light up the whole of Chiado until January 12 next year.
