All over the city you can already feel the magic of the Christmas season. As well as the lights switch-on scheduled for this Saturday, November 23rd, Christmas concerts are another reason to celebrate the festive season. That’s why we’re going to tell you about the musical program for the Lisbon Christmas Festivities.
Run by the municipality’s Empresa de Gestão de Equipamentos e Animação Cultural (EGEAC), the Christmas Festivities promise to bring music to three Lisbon churches and the Capitólio, in the parishes of Campo de Ourique, Misericórdia and Areeiro.
Baroque and classical music, electronic sounds and rock n’ roll are some of the genres expected. In this free initiative , you can travel through various universes and there’s a surprise: a DJ set to listen to. So take a look at the official calendar and make a note in your diary so you don’t miss a beat.
Lisbon Christmas Festival concerts
According to the EGEAC press release, this is the musical program for the Lisbon Christmas Festivities:
- November 30, at 9 p.m. – the Lisboa Cantat Chamber Choir performs at the Santo Condestável Church, presenting a line-up of traditional Portuguese songs
- December 6, at 9 p.m. – concert by the Nova Era Vocal Ensemble & Orquestra 1755, at the Nossa Senhora das Mercês Church, dedicated to the compositions of different musicians from the Bach family
- December 13, at 9 p.m., the Sete Lágrimas project revisits the epic sea voyage of Fernão de Magalhães, at the São João de Deus Church.
DJ set and rock concert
As mentioned above, the Festas de Lisboa program is not restricted to churches, so the Capitólio, in Parque Mayer, will host two shows:
- December 7, at 9:30 p.m., Batida and Tigerman perform an unprecedented DJ sé
- December 14, at 9:30 p.m., a concert by The Lucky Duckies, inspired by Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra and others.
