The Portuguese government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Luís Montenegro, has guaranteed family festivities for thousands of state workers by granting them one more day off than usual: December 24, 26 and 31.
In a decision that maintains the tradition of previous years (except for the extra day), the order signed this Thursday, December 18, allows employees of the State’s direct administration and public institutes (in non-essential services) to have a longer end of year.
Three days “off”… but not for everyone

The measure aims to facilitate travel and family life, recognizing the importance of these moments for the Portuguese.
However, it’s important to note that the time off does not apply to essential public services, which will have to maintain their normal operations:
- Days off:
- December 24, 26 and 31;
- For whom:
- Workers in direct state administration and public institutes;
- Exceptions:
- Services considered essential are excluded from the measure.
