
Portugal is becoming an increasingly popular destination for major cultural events, from concerts by artists such as Bad Bunny and Kylie Minogue to intergenerational classics. Three years on from their last appearance, Cats are already scheduled to meet their national audience again.
The international phenomenon is back in January 2026, with several unmissable shows. The musical first arrives in Lisbon, where it will be on stage at Sagres Campo Pequeno from January 6 to 11. It then heads north, with performances at the Super Bock Arena in Porto from January 14 to 18.
A journey into the universe of Cats
Written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and adapted from the literary work “Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats” by T.S. Eliot, this play fuses music, dance and poetry in a show that continues to cross generations.
The original production ran for an impressive 21 years at the New London Theatre, where it won the Olivier Award for Best Musical. In 1982, a year after its London premiere, it crossed the Atlantic and shone in front of millions of Broadway audiences .
Today, the musical continues to attract the attention of countless spectators all over the world, and there are some data that attest to the relevance of this play, such as:
